Easily accessible by ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, the beaches here are often over a mile wide. The best areas are on the west coast island of Rømø where there are lots of swimming and paddling spots. The beach at Sønderstrand is also great for sailing and flying kites. The area is also home to Danfoss Universe, an interactive science park where children can try lifting a car with their bare hands and zoom around Europe’s first Segway track. Rent a beach cottage for six people for a week in May from £240.
