Memory Books

From your baby's first ultrasound pictures to your recollections of that tearful first day at school, there are great books that can help you keep your family's memories safe…

1. Mom’s One Line A Day: A Five-Year Memory Book
(Chronicle Books, £12.99)

What a great idea – it’s impossible to find the time for that half hour reminisce every evening, so why not just have this book at the ready for those snatched moments between feeds, while watching television, or after they have finally fallen asleep to write that one line to summarise the memory of the day… The downside is that once you’ve written your one line, you’ll probably have a whole chapter you could fill.

2. My Life Story: A Diary For Your Whole Life
(Suck UK, £25)

This tome is a little scary – after all it takes you from your birth to your eulogy, but this hefty volume does mean that there is one place to safely keep everything from the ultrasound pictures to the school reports, university pictures and well-and-truly beyond. So no more running between baby books, school notebooks and wedding albums. You will feel so much more together as a person!

3. Grandparents Journal
(Ryland Peters & Small, £14.99)

Wow – the questions filling these pages are brilliant. Who would have thought to ask about your parents’ memory of their own first day at school, their favourite family meals, games and traditions the family shared, favourite teachers, the honeymoon. And the best thing is that for every question asked, there is a page for each grandparent, so they can each tell their own version of the story – so even if one is usually ‘the storyteller’, this book will ensure the other also gets to have their say!

4. Memory Frame
from Darling & Darling £100

Work with a designer to commission a lasting keepsake that can include anything important to you – from maternity ward name tags to ballet shoes – proudly displayed and framed for the wall.

5. Bob Books
www.bobbooks.co.uk

From Flickbooks to Photobooks, Bob Books have options for storing all those photos in a way that you will happily pull off the shelf to look through time and again. Also labelled ‘Your life in hardback', the Photobooks can include text along with the pictures. Meanwhile, you could turn the Flickbook into pictures of your child – a growth chart if you like – with a few shots from each year so you can watch them grow from a baby into a toddler, or all the way to a teenager at the 'flick' of the 50 pages! Flickbooks cost £9.99 excluding P&P; Photobooks cost from £24.99 for a 21 x 21cm 26-page book to £136.99 for a 28x36cm 130-page book.
