Sukie founders' quirky vintage home
Darrell and Julia Gibbs, founders of design company Sukie, embrace vintage style at their cosy family home by the sea
And so the company was born, with Darrell taking on the role of designer and Julia providing the marketing know-how. “We named it Sukie after the cat I had when I was growing up,” says Julia. “We weren’t sure then which direction we were going to take and so wanted a flexible name.” The nursery rhyme associations with Polly and her kettle add to the company’s cosy, vintage vibe.
Since then, their range has been constantly expanding. There are travel journals with retro camper van prints and sketchbooks with old maps. There’s a light-heartedly literal Face Book notebook – with each page printed with an animal face. And for scribes with grand aspirations, there are My First Novel notebooks.
