Olive Loves Alfie owner's funky home

Mixing original artworks, bespoke furnishings and Seventies classics delivers retro perfection in Ashlyn Gibson’s home

We’re chatting in Ashlyn’s luxurious bedroom, perhaps the most minimalist room in the house, but one that’s still bursting with gorgeous things and great ideas. Piled onto the wardrobe are her grandparents’ old suitcases, which she still uses when she goes on holiday; there are swathes of sari fabric, brought back from Madras, which perfectly offset the deep purple drapes; a gold decorative pattern painted on the wall behind the bed has tendrils that curl up over the bed, effectively becoming a headboard.

Best of all is a present from Ashlyn’s boyfriend – a huge ornate picture frame that hangs above the fireplace and that currently houses a vintage prom dress on a hanger. “I change the dress every few weeks for something else from my collection,” says Ashlyn. “I always have a few lovely bits of vintage clothing on display. They’re so pretty and I love looking at them.” In fact, there’s barely a painting to be seen on Ashlyn’s walls. Instead, there are dinky vintage children’s clothes and clusters of handbags, hats and gloves, all given pride of place on the walls and available to both use and admire.
