A stone’s throw from their home is Ashlyn’s business – the gorgeous children’s boutique and accessories shop called Olive Loves Alfie on Stoke Newington’s hippest road, Church Street. Ashlyn started the store three years ago; the name comes from when Olive wrote a birthday card to her best friend, Alfie, and signed it “Olive loves Alfie”. Ashlyn had the idea of putting together inspiring, imaginative and design-led products that would become modern heirlooms for children in an all-too-disposable world.

“I haven’t bought into mass-produced or hyped products. Nor do I support the tradition of girls wearing pink and boys wearing blue,” she insists. “I believe that, given the chance, little people of the world are far more individual than that. So I have searched the world for modern classics and beautifully made items, as well as vintage favourites that would capture the imagination of both children and adults.”
