In the garden, there are quirky sculptures that add an eccentric touch. A stone man hides in the grass, stretching forward to touch his toes. In the flower bed there’s a life-size goat made out of scrap metal – a present from Baukjen’s parents to celebrate Oliver’s birth. To Pippa they gave a voluptuous figure of a woman who dangles from the branch of a tree. Sebastian’s present is inside – a bronze panther from Benin. Then there’s a stone dog standing guard outside the back door. “We’d like to get a real dog sometime but not yet,” says Geoff. “For the time being, this is a compromise.”
On the first floor is the pièce de résistance – a lavish lounge with a projector for home cinema nights. With richly painted purple walls and hot-pink side lamps, the room feels like a classy cocktail lounge. “The children love it and invite all their friends over to watch films,” says Baukjen.
