Stylist Caroline Stanbury presents a luxury pad with a hint of girliness
Similarly, the sofas and dining furniture in the drawing room on the first floor were made bespoke for the new house. “Our last home was smaller and all the furniture would have been the wrong proportions for these larger rooms,” says Caroline. It may sound like a luxury to start from scratch but, sensibly, she sold most of their previous furniture to the new purchaser, then the rest on eBay and at auction.
The first floor also has an interconnecting drawing room and dining room, both with high ceilings and ornate mouldings. “The house is Grade II-listed, so we retained all the original period features,” says Caroline. With its full-length cream silk curtains, two deep-buttoned sofas upholstered in brown silk, and an antique chandelier from Alfie’s Antique Market, the drawing room is the perfect zone for entertaining; when Caroline and Cem are at home in the evenings, they tend to stay downstairs in the chill-out sitting room.
