Stylist Caroline Stanbury presents a luxury pad with a hint of girliness
When the family moved in, there was minimal structural work that needed to be done, so the emphasis was on the interior decoration. On the ground floor there is an interconnecting kitchen and sitting room, with French doors leading onto the garden. “The kitchen was almost brand new, so we kept it,” says Caroline, but – ever the perfectionist – she did make a few alterations. She had the kitchen cupboard doors painted black, which tone perfectly with the taupe marble worktops, and added some beautiful hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper, which was a daring move. She laughs. “I did notice some pencil drawings on it the other day – but what can you do?”
In the adjacent chill-out sitting room, walls are painted a deep, relaxing taupe, and there is a giant bespoke handmade sofa upholstered in grey-taupe silk. This sofa, Caroline says, is a favourite spot for Yasmine and her friends to bounce up and down, or watch television. “But it’s a hard-wearing silk – you can always sponge it down,” she says.
