Marie Joxe-Collins, Pooki, France, www.pookiandco.com
The trend for weird dolls is said to have drawn much of its inspiration from Marie Joxe-Collins, a Franco-Colombian illustrator and brand creator, based in France. Her first dolls were hand-stitched in 2001, and she is now selling an extended international range of Pookies in three sizes largely through museum and design stores. Her own influences, she claims, lie somewhere between the animated film Yellow Submarine and the work of artist Hieronymus Bosch. There are ten characters, all made from machine-washable fleece in Joxe-Collins’ own distinctive colours.
