Now that the 21st century is well and truly upon us, it is perhaps pertinent to consider what we’re creating for the next generation. Literally. After all, the products we buy today are likely to be passed on to our children and – if we get it right – our children’s children. So what criteria should we be seeking when selecting products designed for the home?
This generation has a whole new set of interests and concerns; it’s no longer every man for himself (the philosophy that peaked in the Eighties), but the reconciling of many needs and desires. As the environment has become something to preserve rather than use thoughtlessly, the overarching need for sustainability means we’re looking forwards to new production materials and methods, but also backwards to the revival and recycling of vintage pieces that have stood the test of time.
