The Elephant Stool is one of the most famous postwar designs. Created by Japanese designer Sori Yanagi for Vitra in 1954, this stackable, three-legged product was originally designed to be made in fibreglass and came only in black or white. In 2004, at the age of 88, Yanagi redesigned it so that it could be made in recyclable plastic. Looking as wonderful as ever, it now comes in red and grey, too and is as functional outdoors as it is indoors. The Elephant Stool costs £56 from Nest.
