The north London home of author Grace Saunders and her jeweller husband Michael is filled with a sense of modern romance. French armoires, old Venetian mirrors, hand-painted Rajasthani cabinets; every item tells a story that recalls an adventure or a holiday or an anniversary the couple have spent together. “We fell in love in Morocco and brought back the beautiful bowls that now hang on the kitchen wall,” says Grace. “And the silk bedspread – we lugged that back from Jaisalmer after three days of bartering! I love to have reminders of good experiences on display around the house.”
Grace and Michael spent six months transforming their three-storey Victorian terraced house into this cosy family home where they live together with their three children: six-year-old Bella, Gabriel, four and the latest addition to the family baby Raphael, six months. As a couple, they complement one another’s decorating sensibilities perfectly. “Michael is all about light and space and surfaces, whereas I love the styling and accessorising, which makes us a good team,” says Grace.
