Author Grace Saunders takes us on a tour of her Victorian family home where tales of romance, travel and adventure are all part of the furniture
Since Raphael has nabbed her office, Grace has turned a corner of the living room into a space she can work from. But don’t for a moment imagine a makeshift blot on the otherwise beautiful landscape of this room. Instead, Grace has drafted in a lovely Venetian-mirrored glass desk from which she now pens her manuscripts. Her latest book, The Fabulous Mum’s Guide To Family Life, is well underway.
Despite the elegance of her surroundings, Grace explains that this tome is gritty, real and upbeat. “There are sections on all the stuff we parents need to know about as our children get older: competitive parenting, travelling with children, eco-living – all issues that are relevant to families in the 21st century,” says Grace. “I had a burst of creative energy when Raphael was born and would pop him in his Moses basket under my desk while I wrote it.” Due to be published in 2009, Grace is going to relax once it’s finished. “Actually, I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time with the children. They are all at such interesting ages and times of their lives, so it will be a very satisfying feeling to stop working for a while and enjoy them.”
The Fabulous Mum’s Guide To Family Life will be published by Century in February 2009.
