Meanwhile, surely their London home is nearly perfect? “It isn’t completely finished yet,” says Ann Louise. “We’ve still got plain glass windows on the doors to the bathroom,” she laughs. “We’ve been meaning to get them frosted for ages. It drives our families mad when they visit and want a bit of privacy. But we’ll get there in the end.”

It takes a really keen eye to get a house done up in a unique way. Not everyone can pull just any old "look" off. Especially if you want to be bold and outspoken about your design choices. But I have seen some interior designers trawl auctions and garage sales looking for storage treasures to decorate clients' houses with. It's actually quite interesting how they can pick some old looking junk off the street and with a bit of work have it transformed into something elegant and suitable for a second life in a new house! It's a veritable skill!
