Designing and decorating a room that incorporates the various interests of a child can be a difficult task, especially when it comes to finances. However, there are ways to create the perfect space for your little one without breaking the bank.

Make a plan

It can be all too easy to get swept away and dive straight in when it comes to decorating. Whilst this can be easier and perhaps more fun, it may not be so kind on your pocket. Before you begin, make a plan. Consider everything from colours and themes, to furniture and accessories, and put all your final ideas into a list, as well as a drawing of the room layout. This way, you won't end up buying more than you need to, and the decor will coordinate.

Use a printer

Instead of heading to the shops in search of pictures and posters, make them yourself with a Brother all in one printer. This will work especially well if you are creating a specific theme for the room, such as your child's favourite book or movie. Look into renting or borrowing a projector to recreate the image on the bedroom wall, but don't worry if you're not the creative type. There are plenty of good quality images online; simply print them and place in some funky frames.

Decals

If your little angel loves the idea of a princess room, but you're hoping for decor that will last into her teens, consider using decals. These stick-on decorations can be moved from one surface to another and, when she's all grown up, can be easily removed. There are thousands of designs available to suit a broad range of themes and at great prices too.

Recycle

For many, the most expensive aspect of redecorating is purchasing new furniture. However, it is not always necessary to replace existing furniture with fresh pieces in favour of fitting your new theme. Existing bed frames, wardrobes and drawers can be transformed with a splash of paint and stencils. Carefully cover the item in your colour of choice and, once it's dry, use your multifunction wifi printer to print stencils that fit with your theme. Attach several stencils and fill them in with a complimentary colour.

Bedding

Instead of spending money on expensive bedding, spruce up your existing sheets with some handy needlework and accessories. An ordinary bedspread can be transformed with some lines of lace sewed around the edges. However, if sewing isn't your forte, invest in some inexpensive throws and cushions to add colour and style to your child's bed.
