Lucy Ryder Richardson lives in a classic four-bedroom Seventies house, architecture that relentlessly divides visitors into definite “love it” or “hate it” camps. Certainly, as we arrive on a sunny morning and walk up the steps to it, her house feels quite special. It is set on a large southeast London suburban estate, backed with mature woodland, and the setting is stunning. All the houses on the estate were designed in the Sixties, but built in 1970, and Lucy’s home is quite simply a hymn to all things modern, flooded with light and full of picture windows. “People usually arrive and say ‘Wow!’” she says. “It’s the type of house I longed to live in as a child, because it feels just like a doll’s house.”
