Vintage class meets modern design to create a family-friendly home that is relaxed, colourful and fun
Lucy’s own home is choc-a-bloc with a clever mix of modern designers and vintage, which blend sympathetically with the architecture. It’s six years since she and her architect husband, Adam, moved in, and they’ve slowly been restoring the place’s original Seventies spirit. “We started off by painting everything white, then gradually added accent colours, such as the olive green in the kitchen,” says Lucy. Apart from knocking the kitchen and dining room into one, they have retained the original layout, plus plenty of the early features, including the timber floor in the hall, the distinctive open-tread staircase, and two sets of French doors. Adam redesigned the kitchen cupboards in a retro style with walnut doors and Seventies handles, and they’ve laid floor tiles, hand-painted to look like burnt cork.
