You can’t help but feel a little envious when you walk into Alex and Charlie Willcock’s house in the country. As dream homes go, it’s got everything: stunning Queen Anne proportions, stylish modern-country interior, idyllic countryside location… the list goes on. Even the goats playing in the bluebell-filled garden are adorable.
The Willcocks and their two young children, Song and Otter, moved from London to West Sussex two years ago. Keen to have clean air and rolling green hills as the environs in which to raise their family, the couple had only one criteria for their new home – that it had to be within a two-hour drive to Alex’s older children, Coco and Felix, from his first marriage.
They scoured the internet and eventually found this unexpected gem, which is a stone’s throw from the nearest train station and an hour’s journey from Coco and Felix in central London. “The owners were actually doing the house up to rent out,” explains Alex. “Because we got in early, they allowed us to choose the decor and specify the finishes. We brought in our own builders to speed things along.”
