With woodland walks in beautiful West Sussex countryside, the Willcock family now happily resist the lure of London
The outside of the house is every bit as lovely as the inside. Surrounded by gardens to the back, front and sides, the property has a rickety wooden gate and an ancient, mossy stone path leading to the front door. In fact, this house is exactly what children create when asked to draw an imaginary home.
A little walled garden just off the kitchen has become a favourite place where the children play. It’s there that they can potter about, feed their chickens and play with their cats, while Charlie and Alex keep an eye on them from inside. The little wooden summer playhouse that’s been built out there is fast becoming Song’s second home. Painted white, with colourful bunting flapping over the front door and window boxes bursting with pink blooms, it’s the cutest playhouse a little girl could wish for.
Alex and Charlie’s move to the country has proved even better than they had hoped. “We loved our place in London, but you can’t beat having a beautiful garden and being able to take long walks in the woods with the children,” says Charlie. “It’s so liberating – I don’t know why we didn’t move sooner.”
