Pacapod Sydney Q&A with Jacqueline Waggett - Best changing bag 2014 - HIGHLY COMMENDED

We meet the founder behind the 2014 Junior Design Award highly commended entry

What is your name and job title?

Jacqueline Waggett – Owner and Designer of Pacapod

Can you tell us a little about the changing bag you have entered into the awards, and why you think it is award winning?

PacaPod was born from the sheer frustration of feeling disorganised and unglamorous after having my first daughter and all of our bags are created with that in mind – to combine fashion with function. Sydney offers the effortless casual everyday styling that’s so in vogue right now - but can seem impossible to achieve when carrying around baby gear all day! Hidden inside is PacaPod’s unique 3in1 organising system to keep baby, toddler and parent items neat, tidy, easy pack and find whilst on the move and (mostly probably) under pressure.

Why do you think it stands out among the plethora of changing bags available?

It’s the versatility of the design and the attention to detail we put into our products that makes them special. Each PacaPod provides 3 bags instead of 1 with a detachable feeder and changer pod that can be attached to any buggy or dropped at nursery making them great for sharing with dad or grandparents and perfect for travelling and using different elements of the bag at the same time.

What do you think are the hallmarks of outstanding design in the wonderful world of changing bags?

Firstly clever functionality that thinks about the parents needs first and foremost, ease of use, adaptability and secondly how the bag makes the user feel about them selves.  There is such a shift when you have children, which effects career, physical body shape, social groups and sleep habits! How we look, and what we wear takes on greater importance and therefore retaining something of ourselves in the new products we use is so important.

How do you imagine the kind of mum who carries your changing bag?

She’s a busy lady who’s juggling life and baby and is keen to retain a sense of herself and hopefully our bags help her do that!

What do you keep in your changing bag?

My daughters are now 6 & 8 but I still use a PacaPod which houses my laptop and essential handbag items.  I use the ‘feeder pod’ as a cool bag for my lunch and the changer pod for make-up and personal items….

Why did you enter your product into the Junior Design Awards?

I’ve always felt that Junior reflects the same values that we do as a brand. It’s synonymous with great style and quality and the awards always bring the most innovative and beautiful baby products to the attention of an increasingly discerning audience of parents.

Why is it so important to have beautiful parenting accessories?

Having lovely things is so important to help mums to keep their own sense of identity and feel more confident at what is a very vulnerable time in a woman’s life. A baby bag in particular is something that is used every day so it’s great to have something you love and will cherish for years to come.
