So, step forward our winning entries for best product design for babies and children. These are the items that the Junior editorial team and our panel of esteemed judges felt were absolute must-haves.
THE GOLD AWARD FOR BEST PRODUCT DESIGN (BABY/CHILD) IS... SNUGGLE SQUISHLY
Apart from being an aesthetically pleasing curved design, the Squishy changing mat by Snuggle is a super soft mat made from warm-to-touch foam for the most comfortable and safe nappy changes, baby massage and tummy time.
The special non-toxic, baby safe, soft foam material holds room temperature and is therefore warm to the touch for baby’s skin so no shock of cold vinyl here! With a waterproof, no leak surface, the Squishy is easy to clean too.
The head end of the Squishly is also slightly elevated which means not just more comfortable for baby rather than being laid flat, but can also help babies with colic – all leading to a less stressful changing time for mum and baby. The Squishy has a lip around the entire mat – helping to keep baby secure, but also helps stop any little accidents from escaping – just simply mop up any little pools in the base of the mat.
THE SILVER AWARD FOR BEST PRODUCT DESIGN (BABY/CHILD) IS... ADEN + ANAIS
aden + anais introduced its classic muslin swaddle blanket back in 2009 after co-founder Raegan Moya Jones' daughter Anais was born. As she searched high and low across the United States (where she and her husband were living) for the large muslin swaddling blankets that were a staple of her Australian childhood.
Creating the world's first extra large, multi-use muslin they were designed to make the process of swaddling easier - since the swaddle blanket has become the ultimate baby essential. And, the classic ones by aden + anais which are the winning entry here are made from 100% cotton muslin and infamous for its breathability, versatility and exclusive prints.
Incredibly versatile these swaddle blankets double up as a burp cloth, tummy time blanket, nursing cover, pram cover, changing table cover and more. All of the aden + anais muslins are pre-washed so it's super soft from the start and stays that way wash after wash.
These original swaddles continues to set the standard worldwide.
THE JOINT BRONZE AWARD FOR BEST PRODUCT DESIGN (BABY/CHILD) IS... HOODED OWLS
Hooded Owls are large hooded towels for children aged 1 to 13 years that are thick, soft, fluffy and absorbent. Generous in size, the towels come with a double layer hood and a stylish decorative trim that can be personalised (think dinosaurs, flowers, mermaids, or sharks).
They also feature a heart or star-shaped pop fastener, meaning they can stay closed like a poncho so toddlers stay nice and dry whilst running around, and older ones can have some ‘hands-free’ privacy when they're getting changed. And when they want the full towel to get dry, they just simply need to release the popper!
Designed for those with style in mind; these towels look at home in the most premium of bathrooms, hung elegantly by their hoods in an array of vibrant colours.
