Five ways to have an eco-friendly school run

1 Travel with friends
If you must use a car, start a lift-share scheme with other parents. You will lower emissions, and save money on petrol, too.

2 Be proactive
Put a piece in the school bulletin or website inviting parents to join your scheme. It may also encourage other parents to form their own scheme.

3 Get on your bike
Even better than using your car, use a bike. Your child will love pedalling along beside you, and you’ll both get fitter in the process.

4 Walk the walk
Walking is, of course, the ultimate eco-friendly way to get your child to school. For young, slower children, you can turn the walk into a game of racing between the lamp posts.

5 Bussing it
School buses are rare these days, but if you live in a remote area, you could petition your council for one as an eco-friendly investment.
