Tales On Moon Lane
The award-winning bookshop which will enchant the whole family
It can be challenging to introduce your child to the magic of reading. Luckily for parents in south-east London one charming book shop is providing youngsters with a spellbinding experience that could make a Matilda of any little monster.
The enchantingly named Tales on Moon Lane in Herne Hill has been providing an appealing environment for children to read, play and interact with friendly, knowledgeable staff for 8 years. Owner Tamara Macfarlane founded the shop in order to create a space that “celebrates real books where the pleasure of reading is innately woven between wonderful illustrations and a proper story”.
Situated in a quaint row of boutiques on the aptly named Half Moon Lane, the store itself cannot fail to entice passers-by with its imaginative window displays and exhaustive selection of children’s books both new and classic.
Alongside its aesthetic appeal this bijou outfit punches well above its weight in terms of impact, both in the community and the literary world. At the 2011 Bookseller industry awards Tales on Moon Lane was awarded Walker Independent Children’s Bookshop of the Year as well as Young Bookseller of the Year for manager, Georgina Hanratty.
While the accolades pour in Tales on Moon Lane has continued to focus on the local community, regularly hosting author events, parent workshops and inspiring a new generation of bookworms both in the neighbourhood and beyond.
