A day in the life of: Nutritionalist, Jessica Andersson

We spent a day with Jessica, to find out all about her doorstep delivery recipe and ingredient packed bags - perfect for feeding the family

An apple a day...

Jessica Andersson is Director of Menu Planning and Nutrition for Jessica’s Recipe Bag, and has two daughters Emma, 16, and Freja, 14. 

They say: "Jessica's Recipe Bag provides carefully sourced fresh food to go with delicious recipes straight to your door. The nutritionally balanced meals provide you with inspiration for what to cook, help develop cooking skills, encourage your children to try new food and minimise wastage."

Hi Jessica, what is your typical daily routine?

One day a week is spent test-cooking recipes while another is spent doing photo shoots of meals. The rest of the week is spent writing recipes and participating in various marketing events, from radio interviews to presenting at events and attending fairs. I always cook an evening meal during the week and have dinner with the girls. Evenings are often spent doing homework or rushing around to various activities like theatre groups and climbing.

How do you come up with creative, original ideas for Jessica's Recipe Bags?

My passion for what I do inspires me to create. I love cooking and have found inspiration through travelling and growing up with my mother and grandmother, who were both great cooks. I like to experiment and have always been naturally creative. I am also very fussy and therefore like to create my own dishes!

Why do families trust yours as a brand to shop with?

I understand what families need and I am also a trained nutritional therapist. 

What is your office environment like?

My office at home is very organised. I cannot work with lots of mess around me.  Our company office is very busy with lots going on all the time – it has an all hands on deck attitude, so I am get a bit of both.

Did you always want to do what you do now, for a job?

No I only decided on this career path two years ago as the children were growing up. 

What was the first thing you wanted to be ‘when you grew up’?

A mime artist.

What is the best thing about your job?

The people I work with. I love everything about it especially the cooking and getting positive feedback from our customers.  

How do you juggle family life with work life?

It’s simple - by being very organised.

What do you do outside of work, with your family?

We go to the theatre, cinema, travel, cook together, go for days out in the countryside, shop for clothes - teenagers like to shop - and play board games. 

What is coming up, work-wise, for you and your business?

Since we are relatively new we have many plans for the future. Hopefully different types of ‘recipe bags’, getting involved in education, such as cookery lessons and going into schools to talk about nutrition and home cooking. 

Would you want your children to follow in your footsteps?

I am happy that my children can cook, which is an important life skill, however I would like them to pursue their own interests which may end up being something completely different.  

If you had superhero skills - what would be your dream job?

I would like to fly across the world to poorer countries and give them all the food they need. Or then again, maybe I would just be invisible and throw eggs at various disliked politicians.
