Winner of the Best Family Restaurant 2012: Barefoot Books Storyteller's Cafe
With their imaginative and accommodating approach, Barefoot Books have concocted the perfect recipe for family dining
How about tucking into a Little Piggy Bacon Sandwich? Or what about a warm and hearty bowl of Grandpa's Garden Stew? At the Storyteller’s Café in Oxford, the realms of make-believe and gastronomy intertwine. As well as offering a menu of whimsical dishes, the café has a cosy corner where storytelling sessions take place – twice a day at 11am and 4pm. The Storyteller’s Café is part of children’s publishing company Barefoot Books’ brand new base in the city, and it’s fast becoming one of the hottest family meeting points in town.
With a warm orange and zingy lime green paint scheme and picture book scenes splashed large across the walls, the café has a decidedly upbeat and child-friendly vibe. The company’s picture books lie around for little diners to peruse – and no one minds a bit if they get bashed up (or smeared with spaghetti sauce…).
Bringing people together, respecting the planet… the café is in step with the company’s ethos. And, upstairs, the studio hosts everything from crafts classes to a toddler’s choir and African drumming. So while children are occupied, parents can sip a triple-certified coffee and nibble a Big Piggy Bacon Sandwich. Yep, they do those, too.
