Nativity!

All across the land, the nativity play elicits an emotional response from parents – but what about those who have to put it together every year? Martin Freeman (from The Office) is Mr Maddens, a man accustomed to failure. He had dreams of being an actor but it didn’t work out, so now he’s a teacher in a Coventry primary school. He also has a bah-humbug attitude to Christmas – too many memories of being dumped under the mistletoe by his girlfriend before she jetted off to California.

Every year, Mr Maddens directs the school’s nativity play. Badly. And every year, the local independent school outshines them with an ever-more ambitious and brilliant show. This year, Maddens bumps into his smug rival from the posh school and he tells a big fat lie – that his school is preparing the most extravagant Nativity ever and that it has already attracted the attentions of Hollywood! Maddens finds himself at the centre of frenzied excitement involving the Mayor (Ricky Tomlinson), the media, a posse of pushy parents, and a school full of potential Marys and Josephs.

The school is floating on a cloud of stardust, but can Maddens persuade his ex-girlfriend to bring Hollywood to Coventry and make the school’s dreams come true? A hilarious, heart-warming film that will make you and your family laugh and cry.
