The name Christy Turlington-Burns and baby carriers don’t usually go hand in hand – she’s better known for being the American supermodel who secured dozens of modeling contracts in the 90’s from Calvin Klein and Maybelline to Versace.
Over the last 10 years this earth mother's focus has been set on humanitarian activities and this speaks volumes with her new collaboration with Ergobaby to create a baby carrier collection for her charity Every Mother Counts.
Every Mother Counts was founded by Christy after she suffered a postpartum haemorrhage (a post-labour complication) following the birth of her daughter Grace in 2003.
Thanks to life-saving medical intervention, she survived, but not all women are quite so lucky. Every 90 seconds a new mother dies of complications through birth, yet it is estimated that 90% of cases could be prevented with medical treatment. Every Mother Counts raises money to provide better medical care for pregnant women in poverty stricken countries.
Made from super-soft cotton canvas the new Ergobaby Umba Carrier, is lightweight, durable and can be worn in the front, back or hip position. Christy chose the authentic ‘Umba’ print - created by a small businesswoman in Africa who works in textile design to help provide for her family - to merge the unique African textile design with a stylish, one-of-a-kind twist on products parents use every day.
The Ergobaby Christy Turlington Carrier is £149.90, with 10% going directly to Every Mother Counts. The entire range is available now from Huggle. For more stockists visit Ergobaby.
