It's a hectic whirlwind of catwalk shows and presentations at the first day of the 71st edition of Pitti Bimbo in Florence
Artist Annie Vought
Welcome to a warm and sunny Firenze: the weather was clement and clear, unlike last week when the menswear show Pitti Uomo saw persistent rain most of the time, so we were off to a good start.
Miss Blumarine opened the catwalk shows with a gentle ruffled and delicate collection with skirts two to three inches above the knee, with multi tiers or bubble in shape that positively bounced and bobbed down the catwalk. In fact, 'bouncy' pretty much sums up many of the collections here, as we saw later at Elsy where models literaly bounced at the show finale!
At the Simonetta stand, we viewed an art installation by Annie Vought of cut-out letters and noted the signature shapes and freshness of the crisp nautical colourways there. Sweet stand-out pieces were a lemon print romper suit in the baby collection and wonderful brown shoes tied with a printed scarf bow on the sides. Then to the Sarabanda show which had a Fifties twist and some great casual boyswear with mix and match checked plaids in cotton.
Back we rushed to meet Mrs Cavalli at the Roberto Cavalli stand and sample some delicious cakes while viewing the new TeenAngels collection of floaty chiffon dresses and shapely blazer jackets.
Miss Grant showed a very cohesive and fully accessorised collection encompassing both the favorite sailor looks of the season and military khakis mixed with florals. Cute mini-sized top hats and feathers and flowers on hairbands pulled the looks together while the bouncy frilled and puffed skirts had extra volume with layers of net petticoats underneath.
A quick check on the Italian World Cup match (a plenty of groans and moans from the Italian audience) and into Elsy for a collection inspired by the world's travel destinations from Bali to Capri with more navy, white and red combinations and multi-ruffled mixed prints skirts and dresses.
Soon it will be time to see the new Gucci collection and then at 9.30 tonight Monnalisa present their show.
