Roses at Dior
MOVE over Tavi, there's a new girl in town, Little Miss J, and what’s more I work for a magazine, not just a blog. Plus I'm a lot younger. For all my devoted fellow followers of fashion, here is what’s hot and also not for autumn/winter ‘10/11.
Marc Jacobs, personal friend and consequently one of the most important designers in fashion, recently held his press day in London and I got the chance to view the new autumn/winter ‘10/11 collection. I got to sweep my perfect little manicured hands over silk tunics decorated in hearts and paisley prints, place my petite Cinderella feet in overly cute gold mouse pumps and drape this season’s must-have coat – the pash cloak – over my divine shoulders. This season, Marc is all about sharp tailoring and prints, from stone-coloured two-buttoned boys' suits, smart pea coats and preppy pinstrippe blazers. Prints were bright, slightly cartoon like, mixing tradition with doodle-style strokes.
Every little girl dreams of Dior, and when press day came, I got to live that little Dior dream. Waiting at the showroom in Knightsbridge was a little red velvet Dior chair just for little me (Tavi’s too big to fit!). Placed on the chair was a mini fur coat, ready and waiting to be worn and a darling tea dress, decorated with a stark black bow – Christmas day all sorted! On a serious note, the Dior collection took on a fifties silhouette, gathered waists and puffed skirts matched with swing-style jackets, evoking the spirit of Fifties' couture but industrialized for the modern gal about town who likes times gone by with a modern-day twist.
A stone's throw away, Caramel Baby & Child, Papillon and Ovale were showcasing their new offerings. Caramel are a personal favorite and with founder Ava on speed dial, I feel sometimes like I am an ambassador for the brand. Caramel stayed true to their customary style of quaint pretty frocks, fashioned in beautiful floral prints; I chose the mint tea dress and a rather fetching stone-grey blouse topped with a charming Peter Pan collar, then I thought perhaps I would match this look with some Papillon pastel pink loafer accessorized with some of those rather cute Ovale necklaces (you know the designer at Ovale use to design at Dior). Oh how I do love press days!
