Showing support for our national Olympic and Paralympic 2012 teams

As 2012 begins to pick up pace our thoughts are turning ever more towards the impending London Olympic and Paralympic Games. As the official clothing and homeware supplier for the London 2012 Games, high street giant Next last night launched two official scarves at a sparkling event held at the beautiful Saatchi Gallery.

The Team GB scarf is white with detail that includes 900 figures to represent the 900 athletes taking part and 26 images to represent all of the various sports. The Paralympics GB scarf features a hand painted Lion and 60 hand prints to symbolise the 60 million supporters across Great Britain. All of the profits will be donated to the British Olympic and Paralympic Associations.

Junior attended the all-singing, all-dancing launch of the scarves hosted by TV star Claudia Winkleman, who will also be hosting Sports Relief this year. We were treated to a high-energy dance routine, of which the children were the obvious superstars. The confident boys and girls took to the stage to perform a hip hop and break dancing routine dressed from head-to-toe in British themed pieces from the Next Team GB collection as well as the scarves.

Sir Steve Redgrave, Sharon Davies MBE and nine times Paralympian Lee Pearson MBE OBE, all spoke about how important it was to get our children motivated involved in this year's Games. Speaking of the 900 athletes that will be representing Great Britain, Sir Redgrave said "These scarves celebrate their courage and determination. Wear it, wave it and help Team GB WIN with it!" We can't wait to see these scarves being worn, and waved, with Olympic sized pride.

Team GB and Paralympic GB scarf; Large 90cm x 90cm £10, Small 50cm x 50cm £5 Available at Next.
