We caught up with fashion designer, Coleen, at the launch of her high street children's collection
Mother-to-be, Coleen, glows at her childrenswear launch for Littlewoods
The glamourous Coleen Rooney has come a long way from the Coleen Mcloughlin we first saw as a schoolgirl when she was catapulted into the public eye as 'footballer Wayne Rooney's girlfriend'.
This June, she launches her children's collection for Littlewoods: the high street label she has been designing womenswear for, for the past three years.
The collection includes clothing for boys, girls and baby, as well as a nursery and accessory product range in pink and blue star prints, which includes pushchairs changing bags and cots.
We had a quick chat with Coleen at the celebrity-studded launch party, which took place at the elegant Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool.
"I thought a lot about the wearability and washability of the materials for the children's collection," Coleen says, "I think designing childrenswear is fun as you can inject a lot of fun into the designs and more colour. I love the the guitar and rabbit prints."
"Having had Kai was a help because I designed things that I would like to see him in. So it wasn’t too tricky, but designing for boys is definitely harder than for girls!"
Coleen speaks fondly of spending plenty of quality time with her son, Kai, 3, and how the whole family get involved with his love of dressing up. We have all seen Coleen's pictures on Twitter of creations including the Joker for Halloween and the Wizard of Oz, but it is the sunny season, Coleen is looking forward to - if it ever arrives...
"I love summer because I think what boys get to wear in the summer is much nicer. I like smart short-sleeved shirts and sandals, so I’m looking forward to the summer, so I can dig those out."
"I’ve always been a girly girl myself, and I’ve always been confident in clothes and loved fashion. I would say, when I look back, I have always loved colour. I wore as much colour as I could get on!" Coleen laughs.
"I loved United Colours of Bennetton leggings and I particularly remember a mac coat from there, which was covered in lots of colourful fruits. It was my favourite thing ever, I cried for that mac for weeks until eventually I got it in the end! I have tried to inject as much colour as I can into the childrens range because I think its fun and too many people stick to wearing the same thing."
The Coleen Rooney children's collection will be available from June
