The Fashion Inside Scoop: Jigsaw Junior

The Head Designer at Jigsaw Junior talks all things neon, pattern clashing and sparkly, for spring summer 2013

When you think of Jigsaw Junior, what sort of words spring to mind?

Sharon: It has to be fun, fresh, soft, sparkly, quality and attitude.

What were your inspirations for the Junior SS13 collection?

For the first half of the collection this spring summer 2013 season, nature has been a huge source of inspiration for the team – especially plants, animals, rainbows and insects. We have little fluttering butterflies on dresses, cherries and tulips on skirts; sand washed silk roses on t-shirts and adorable rabbits on our favourite tee.

The second part of the collection is about daydreaming and freedom, enjoying simple pleasures like rainbows, sunny days on the beach, lemonade and ice cream! The pieces are designed to be relaxed and easy to mix together.

In our third story, the sunny days on the beach transform into beautiful evening sunsets. Inspired by warm pink sand and the sun reflecting on the sea; here you’ll find small flickers of luxury, ombre sequins and sparkles.

What are your top tips for dressing the kids this Spring-Summer?

Go bright with neon and play with pattern by mixing stripes and prints. This Spring-Summer is all about having fun! Capturing the mood of the 1960’s, we can’t get enough of our neon daisy print – available in shorts, a dress or a jacket.

Do you have any style rules when designing for kids?

Designing for kids is such fun; we work with fabric and prints that are appropriate for children, whilst at the same time remaining unique and sophisticated. We’re always pushing ourselves to experiment with new styles; adding meaningful details from adjustable buttonholes to ribbon trimmed plackets and exclusive prints.

The team tries to imagine how a little girl would feel wearing each style. Comfort, easy dressing and movement are key. Our favourite saying in the office is “does it have the twirl factor?” We like our girl to have some spin!

What are your top three must have pieces from the Junior SS13 collection?

The Modal Cotton Dress with Tucks: The modal cotton jersey fabric is super soft and this is such an easy style to wear with or without the ribbon belt. The neon zigzag stitch adds a cool edge to the feminine flutter sleeves.

Foil Print Skirt: I love this fabric! It looks great washed with a slight crinkle effect and the fullness of the skirt gives it the twirl factor!

Pastel Glitter Dress: With its double layer tulle skirt and bow sash, this dress makes the perfect bridesmaid/occasion dress. Accessorize with Berry and Dee Dee, our resident dogs!
