Junior takes a look at this season’s boots and trends and pick a few of our favourites from the Junior Design Award Winners and more.
Brilliant boots for autumn
This autumn sees a genuine rainbow of colours across much of the kidswear world. Appropriately, footwear follows suit, with brights and bolds guaranteed to lift everyone’s spirits during those darker days. While the monochrome prints remain forever in vogue, those bright AW16 colours need bright boots for brilliant style.
Manuela de Juan
Junior Design Awards Platinum winners, Manuela de Juan, demonstrate why they took the top spot for kids’ shoes this year, with their gorgeous leather boots. We’re easily swayed by a turquoise glitter heel, but look at those owls! We can’t choose, so we feel certain that the only right thing to do is to have both.

This season Stella McCartney has, as usual, created perfectly fabulous looks with her kids’ range. Our favourites this season are these horse frill boots, but there are a host of other glorious options in the range. (And, although they are not technically winter boots, her high-tops are classic McCartney cool and well worth a look for casual play).

Start-rite prove time and time again an ability to spot a trend and make it feel classic and contemporary in one, easy-to-wear style. We can’t quite put our finger on what makes these floral Chelsea boots so fabulous, but whatever it is, we’re smitten. Floral footwear never looked so cool for kids.

Girls’ boots often lead the way in the style stakes, but thankfully Start-rite have really upped the stakes with their boys’ styles this season. Desert boots - a timeless staple of any stylish wardrobe - got a makeover by the Junior Design Awards winners. Start-rite won in both the kids’ shoes and baby footwear categories, proving once again their enduring appeal. We love this classic desert boot, with a hint of flag detail. They are cool enough to wear with jeans, or add a touch of interest to a shirt/chino combination.

Unisex for ultimate cool
Helping us hold onto the heady days of summer, a great white boot makes transition season fun. Old favourites including Polarn O. Pyret and Gap have long led the way in unisex clothing and these white Chelsea boots from Young Soles are perfect neutral partners. In addition to their black soles, they have just the right amount of heritage detail, too. Maximum versatility for girls and boys, smart or casual.

Sound unisex style
We’re almost guaranteed that black boots will never go out of fashion. These Dolce & Gabbana boots offer a stylish alternative to bulky winter boots. Again, another boot with brogue-style details, but the it’s the zip, buckle and laces combo that adds just the right amount of rebel to this cause.
They’ll look as fabulous with a skirt and thick knit jumper as with skinny jeans.

Fun & frivolous
These fun ankle boots are perfect for playing out and will coordinate nicely with the star & monochrome themes we're seeing this autumn. Stella McCartney's puffer springs immediately to mind! And, from this October they'll be available from supermarket Morrisons' Nutmeg range. In fact, they're such good value you could get a few for playtime!
Morrisons, from just £10.
