We chat to Tracey Samuels, founder of the delightful Bonnie Baby - winner of our Designer Baby Fashion category - and discover her tomboy roots and penchant for pedal pushers

Bonnie Baby, spring summer 2011 collection
 1 of 1

What is your name and where did you grow up?

Tracey Samuel, Dunblane, Scotland - Lovely idyllic childhood in the country.

What is your job?

Designer/Owner Bonnie Baby

What did you want to be when you grew up?

An artist.

What were your favourite pastimes as a child?

Drawing, playing outdoors and building dens with my friends in the countryside surrounding my parents' house. I used to drive my dad mad by stealing bits of building and DIY stuff from his garage to make 'gang huts' in the forest next to their house.

At what age and how did you start to notice fashion?

When I was a teenager we had a really strict uniform policy at school, so it was fun to play with the rules and try to be creative.

What was your favourite thing to wear as a child?

I still remember my green velour pedal pushers fondly!

Who would you most like to design an amazing creation for?

Pippi Longstocking; I’m reading it to my daughter Alice Bee at the moment.

What is your hot fashion tip for winter 2011?

Matching hues of the same colour - preferably berry tones and greens, and '50s inspired dresses.

Can you tell us a joke…

I can never remember any!  My daughter came home with this one the other day-

Q. How do you make a tissue dance?

A. Put a little boogey in it!

Did you know... Bonnie Baby won our Best Designer Baby Fashion award - make sure to have a look at the beautiful autumn winter collection.
