The perfect family breakfast for weekends at home - and simple too. For extra taste, you could add a blob of ketchup or Daddies sauce on top. And its short preparation time means it works well as a quick after-school tea too.

Ingredients

  • a little butter
  • 1 piece Thick ham
  • 1 large egg
  • 1tbsp grated Gruyère cheese
  • some crusty bread or toast

Method

  • STEP 1

Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/Gas Mark 6. Rub a little butter inside a ramekin. Break up the slice of ham into the bottom. Crack the egg on top, then sprinkle the cheese over. Bake for 12–15 minutes.

Let it cool slightly and wrap a wet napkin around the outside of the ramekin for the children, in case it is too hot.

  • STEP 2

Serve straight from the oven for adults with crusty bread, or toast, that can be cut into soldiers, for children.
