The Magical Martinhal
Find family-friendly fun in this Portuguese paradise
The founders of Luxury Family Hotels, who previously set-up a selection of fabulous luxe hotels for families in the UK, have now turned their attention to the Continent with a whole new venture and this summer sees the opening of the Martinhal Hotel & Beach Resort in Portugal. There’s a glamorous hotel on site but it’s the gorgeous villas for families (some with private pools) that catch the eye with breathtaking ocean views, designer interiors, daily maid service, wireless internet access and satellite television.
There is also plenty to keep you active. The resort boasts five swimming pools, four tennis courts, fully equipped gym and a football field, plus a range of watersports, mountain biking or golf can be organised by the on site Club 98 sports club.
Children are well catered for with the Raposinhos children’s club, which provides daily care and activities for children from six months to ten years, plus a high-tech games room to keep older children amused.
While the children are being entertained, you can pamper yourself in the luxurious spa. There’s also a range of restaurant options on offer, from fine dining at the Hotel Martinhal – where you can sip cocktails on the terrace whilst admiring the stunning sea views – to informal family dining at Os Gambozinhos in the resort Village Square where you can feast on pizza and pasta. If you love fish, catch the As Dunas beachfront restaurant, where freshly caught specialities grace the menu daily and there’s bite-sized portions available for children. If you fancy a night in, you can even order a home delivery dinner from the resort’s gourmet village store.
The setting is idyllic as the resort is located within a protected national park, so there’s plenty of wildlife and nature to enjoy. The historic Portugese town of Sagres is also just a stroll away, while nearest airport, Faro, is a one-hour drive away. Prices start at €275 per day for a two-bedroom villa (three-bedroom villas also available). Monarch fly to Faro from Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester.
