What’s the vibe? A friendly city with fairytale spires and an airy sea breeze.
Mini city slickers will love The enchanting Tivoli Gardens, where children can meet Danish cartoon hero Petzi and take a whirl on the not-too-hairy roller coaster and carousel rides. See the Changing Of The Guard outside the Amalienborg Palace, have a laugh at the Circus Museum, take a dip in the harbour baths or stroll through the botanical garden. The National Museum and the arty J F Willumsens Museum both have lots of creative activities for children. If you want to greet The Little Mermaid statue who normally sits on the harbour side in honour of her fairytale creator Hans Christian Andersen, you’ll have to wait until December, as she is currently on loan to China for the World Expo.
Travel in style Cruise the city’s scenic waterways on a canal boat.
Where to stay The new Tivoli Hotel is themed around the Tivoli Gardens. From £167 per night for a family suite. Visit www.tivolihotel.com
