At over 18 acres, York Maze lays claim to the tremendous title of largest maize maze in Europe. Of course, setting foot in such a labyrinth could leave you as lost as the proverbial needle. But thankfully there are talking sculptures and clues to help you muddle on through.
Star attractions If being the largest maze in Europe weren’t enough, York Maze also boasts the UK’s largest inflatable slide. There are also play areas, pig racing and – new for 2011 – the CrowMania tractor trailer ride, where visitors must help the farmer scare off the mischievous crows with water cannons (RIP the scarecrow…). Those pesky crows fight back and inevitably everyone gets a wee bit wet.
Family X Factor Children love to lead the way in finding the route through the maze. The massive sand and water play area and jumping pillow are a big hit with families, as is the barbecue area.
Not many people know this but… York Maze is cut out of a giant field of maize plants, similar to corn on the cob, but only suitable for animal feed. There are over 1.5 million maize plants at York Maze.
