Summer at Maggie & Rose
July 23–September 11
South Kensington family club Maggie & Rose is hosting a summer full of activities, including cooking classes, cake decorating and the maddest mad hatter’s tea party.

Play Dirty
July 23
Learn all about dirt at the Wellcome Collection. Help to build a giant sculpture or use dust, dirt and sand to make pretty patterns.

Ben & Jerry's Double Scoop Sundae Festival
July 23, 24
Satisfy clamours for the cold stuff with this tantalising festival, taking place on Clapham Common. Listen to sweet music, visit the petting farm and have a go on the helter-skelter. For more details, see Ben And Jerry's Sundae Musical Festival.

Summer Skate Spectacular
July 25
Come along to Lee Valley Ice Centre to skate the day away in the summer ice rink.

Children's Activities
July 26–September 2
There's lots going on at the Bentall Centre in London this summer, with Thumb's Up It's Thursday events every week, free Build a Bear activities every Wednesday, plus science workshops, hula hooping , a mobile zoo, puppet making, balloon modelling and face painting.

Big Picnic
July 29
Bring along your own picnic, take a long lunch and come along and enjoy the music and children’s entertainment at the Coronation Gardens in Waltham Forest.

Park and Pond Explorers
July 30
Engage your child’s curiosity about nature, both on land and underwater at Bedfont Lakes in Ashford.  Keen explorers can become a nature detective for the day, discovering the various wildlife of the park and then taking a dip in the pond to discover what creatures are lurking in the deep.

Camp Rock
August 7
On the first Sunday of each month Whiteleys shopping centre in Bayswater holds a Sunday Funday. On August 7 the theme is Camp Rock. Children can make musical instruments or enter into the Ultimate Guitar Hero Challenge. A free musical gift will be given out to the first 100 children.

Empire Presents...BIG SCREEN
August 12–14
Film fanatics can meet the stars, see live performances, premieres and previews, take part in movie masterclasses as part of Empire Presents...BIG SCREEN at The O2, Greenwich.

Nocturnal Nature
August 13
Take a close up look at these secret creatures of the night... bats! There will be a short talk before heading onto the Waterworks Nature Reserve in Leyton with bat detectors to hopefully see and hear wild bats feeding. 

Children’s Literature Festival
August 13–21
Head to The Imperial War Museum this summer a special exhibition and literature festival celebrating classic war stories for children. Children can take part in fun interactive workshops and talks by authors including Michael Morpurgo (War Horse) and Michelle Magorian (Goodnight Mister Tom).

Out Of The Box
August 27–28
Delve into a dressing up box of iconic replica items associated with that bastion of Britishness, Winston Churchill. Little gents can try on a spiffy bowler hat whilst daddy may enjoy sizing up the great man’s cigar collection at the Churchill War Rooms in Westminster.

The Disney 50 at BFI Southbank
Throughout 2011
Every weekend throughout 2011, the BFI Southbank will be screening Disney's 50 animated movies.

Dinosaurs Unleashed
Now-December
A fantastic exhibition at The O2 in Greenwich, featuring 25 life sized animatronic dinosaurs, and plenty of special effects to thrill dinosaur fans big and small.
