Enter the marvellously fantabulous world of universally adored and uniquely imaginative author Roald Dahl at the award-winning Roald Dahl Museum And Story Centre. Based in the village where Roald Dahl lived for over three decades, the quirky wordsmith’s presence feels distinctly tangible as you wander the nooks and crannies of the quaint converted cottage which now houses much of his life’s work. Irreverence and hilarity are the order of the day at this bijou little enterprise which has managed to retain the mischievous spirit of the man himself whilst providing an educational family day out. Cheeky children will revel in tales of Dahl’s schoolboy pranks whilst adult aficionados can delve into the vast archive of manuscripts, photographs, letters and mementoes.
Star attractions Sweet-toothed Charlie And The Chocolate Factory fans will have a phizz-whizzingly good time viewing Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka suit and getting hands on with dressing up, creating stories and joining in with Revolting Rhymes in the interactive Story Centre.
Family X-Factor The imagination of Roald Dahl has been brought to life here and it provides a wondrous space for children to indulge their unique creativity. Relax on a crocodile bench outside giant Wonka chocolate doors, produce a drama in the shadow puppet theatre and enjoy a fizzly lifting Whizzpopper drink in the Twit Café.
Not many people know this, but… She may have a goody two-shoes reputation but the character Matilda actually started out in Dahl’s first draft as a very naughty little girl. Discover where it all went right by watching the story develop on touch-screen monitors.
Don’t forget to pack Optimistically speaking, sunscreen and bottled water for keeping cool during Roald Dahl’s village trail around Great Missenden, spotting the local wonders that inspired his most famous work.
