Rain, rain, go away...
Regardless of what slippery surprises the heavens have sent us for summer, the festival season is now well and truly underway and here at Junior we are refusing to let the inclement conditions dampen our enthusiasm for Britain’s fabulous array of outdoor events. The ubiquitous festival uniform of wellies and parkas is far more than just a fashion statement this year.
Families seeking a last-minute summer sojourn from July 6–8 would be well advised to make for one of our hottest picks from the festival calendar, Lounge On The Farm. Set on picturesque Merton Farm in the rolling Kent countryside, this hip boutique event offers a varied line-up of music, comedy and children’s events with a focus on local food and environmental sustainability.
Headlining musical performers will include soulful Scottish crooner, Emeli Sandé, upbeat indie darlings Mystery Jets and The Wombats as well as retro rock appeal for parents in the form of Dexys (now sans the extended Midnight Runners moniker) and Nineties Britpop boys, The Charlatans.
For children, there are attractions in abundance including comedy by stand-up veteran, Phil Kay, a Snow White And The Seven Dwarves pantomime performance, The Science Museum Live and CBeebies stars, the Zingzillas. The children’s Little Lounge area is also to be expanded for this year’s event with a plethora of baby facilities andmore space for families to take a time out from the frenetic festival vibe.
As ever, the Lounge On The Farm is particularly proud of its links with gourmet food producers including locally brewed ciders and ales, Kentish ice cream for sweet toothed young foodies as well as steaks and burgers made from as local a cow as you could ever hope to find, having been raised the very grass on which the festival takes place.
