When in Rome…
From gorgeous gardens to the busy Spanish Steps, there is something for the whole family when in Rome
Italians love children, make the best gelato and love eating al fresco – these facts alone are enough to make Rome the perfect family city break. For a laid-back day with younger children, head to the Villa Borghese Gardens in the city centre: the Pincio area offers the best sunset views across Rome, and the Temple of Esculapius sits alongside a gorgeous lake where children can feed ducks and swans. You could spend a whole day here, but for children over three, a visit to the Colosseum is a must. With all its nooks and crannies and many stories, children will leave wide eyed with amazement. Be sure to buy a ticket that offers entry to both the Colosseum and the Roman Forum on consecutive days; much more family-friendly than trying to cram both into one long day.
A stunning hotel beside the Villa Borghese Gardens and Rome’s main shopping areas is the Aldrovandi Palace Hotel. Or enjoy the opulence of the Hotel De Russie, located near the Spanish Steps.
