Good News Bad News by Jeff Mack (Chronicle, £10.99) 2+
It’s no exaggeration to say that this book is a real rollercoaster of emotion. “Good news!” smiles a sprightly bunny, presenting a bountiful picnic basket to his mousey mate. “Bad news” frowns the rodent as the heavens open. “Good news!” counters the rabbit, whipping out an umbrella. “Bad news” harrumphs Mouse as the wind carries him and the brolly off into the ether. Get the picture? Through all of the ups and downs, this is a simple, sweet story about the power of half-full positivity over half-empty cynicism. Energetic illustrations and simple repetitive text invite interaction and a nifty role-reversal finale subverts any formulaic expectations with a witty twist.
