Olive and The Big Secret by Tor Freeman and The Journey Home by Preston-Gannon

Olive and The Big Secret by Tor Freeman

Olive And The Big Secret by Tor Freeman (Brubaker, Ford & Friends, £10.99) 3+

When Molly confides in her feline friend Olive, the chatty cat finds it hard to keep such big news to herself. She lets slip to a couple of friends, and naturally, the secret spreads like wildfire. Author and illustrator Tor’s childhood passion for comic strips shines through as a quirky cast of animal characters, reminiscent of Richard Scarry, pass the message along the pages, culminating in loose-lipped Olive receiving her come-uppance. But despite the lesson about keeping a friend’s confidence, the tone is fun rather than preachy – with a subtle final page turn letting the cat out of the bag for curious readers.
