What is your name and job title?
Olivier Blanc, Managing Director at Henri Le Worm.
How would you describe this app?
Fun, engaging, informative and utterly unique.
What do you think it takes to make an app covetable?
Originality, usability, depth of content and a lot of hard work!
What would Junior readers enjoy most about the app?
Meeting the fantastic host of characters we have created: actor Simon Pegg does a brilliant job bringing them to life and there’s someone for everyone to love.
What was the inspiration behind the app?
Love for my father, my love for children and love for the brilliance of mother nature.
How do you think we can use apps as more of a family bonding time, than a lone experience?
We have to accept that this generation and subsequent generations of children will be more digitally savy than ever before. So as long as some of the apps we are allowing our children to engage with encourage positive interaction or foster a learning experience then that is fine. So I would hope that users of Henri Le Worm would be encouraged to cook some of the recipes featured in the app with a parent and then enjoy them together as a family. I would also hope that because our story and characters are based in a garden, that our users might go outside and play more, thereby fostering their imagination and perhaps confidence. At the end of the day apps can be a positive or negative influence, it really depends on the content.
Why did you enter this book into the Junior Design Awards?
We are a new children’s brand so to have the support of an established brand with the reputation of Junior would be a wonderful way to help us spread the positive message of Henri and his friends.
