'Preparing for 'summer' with the family... in more ways than one', by Kirsty McCabe

From attempting a family 'glamping' trip to getting ready to reveal what's been covered up by those cosy winter layers...

Glamping - can it be this glam?

This week has been all about the sunshine. But as ever the weekend forecast is not looking quite so promising and I accept full responsibility for that. Why? Because we’re going glamping in Wales. Hopefully I can appease the weather gods between now and then and get a bit of warm sunshine…

Talking of decent weather, it’s time to strip off those layers (but keep them handy cos it’s a bit chilly once the sun goes down) and reveal the pasty skin I’ve been keeping under wraps all winter. Only this year I’ve decided to get some laser hair removal, so I can be a yummy mummy without the faff of razors, cream or wax.

Last week I visited The London Cosmetic Clinic in Knightsbridge, for an Ellipse hair removal treatment. My therapist, Mieke, was so lovely and soon put me at ease as we discussed my options. To get the best results with hair removal you need dark hairs and it turns out I’m actually quite fair when it comes to these things. But, we’re going to try my bikini line and it’s up to me how much goes...

A quick chat with the girls in my office revealed some prefer nothing at all down there. But I think I’d like to leave something, a strip, triangle or whatever. Hey - maybe a cloud shape?

At my consultation and patch test Mieke also zapped a few tiny red dots on my skin, which are apparently broken blood vessels. Or should I say 'were', as they should soon disappear. By this point I was getting quite into the magic of lasers and Intense Pulse Light systems and more than willing for Mieke to fix all my defects!

In case you’re concerned, I don’t plan on posting before/after pictures. Despite going through childbirth twice I do try to hang on to what’s left of my dignity. But I will let you know how it goes...

Time to pamper!

The other secret to being a 'yummy mummy' is to make the most of the baby and toddler years and invest in beautiful but practical products and lifestyle brands. In other words, if you can’t have those fancy shoes then get a decent buggy and a gorgeous changing bag.

For five years now the Junior Design Awards has recognised the best brands in their annual awards and it’s time now to submit your entries for 2016. I’ll be judging (for the third year running), and I can’t wait. It usually makes me feel quite broody, (nothing a family weekend 'glamping' in the rain can’t cure).
