Junior reports from Pitti Bimbo
Monnalisa held it's fashion show for the Spring Summer 2012 season in an amazing outdoor amphitheatre in Florence. It was a shame that the show ran so late as many of the guests had suffered a very long, hot day but the setting and execution of the show was superb. Although when this was followed by a huge wait for a taxi home it left a 'not so happy' feeling for many of the guests. The Monnalisa style was evident in the cartoon prints of the Nylon section, the frilled volume skirts of Monnnalisa and Jackioo and the boys casual and tailoring mix of Hitchiker. The names of the different ranges were displayed on the big wheel set and as each collection came on the catwalk the corresponding name was spun round. Hitchiker opened the show with boys in crisp tailored shorts with blazer jackets or co-ordinated cardigans and snappy straw trilby hats to match. Checks and stripes were jumbled up together with short checked bomber jackets for an American take on sports. The younger section of the Monnalisa line came next with a weath of floral prints in ruffled volume skirts, overprinted denim jackets and mash-ups of stripes and florals in strong sorbet colours. Tutu skirts were layered over lace, or printed, leggings and sweet white lace layered dresses had satin printed panels in neutral tones with black lace edging. The cartoonish Nylon casual section featured lots of grey jersey and printed cartoon T-shirts mixed with a star print and again had a very American feel with cut away shorts in a '70s retro style. Skateboards were carried on the backs accessoriesed with peaked visors or headbands and gang style rolled trousers for the boys. Finally, the Jakioo and Monnalisa older lines showed a more sophisticated version of the younger line with a strong Chinese blue floral print, polka dots and daisies in navy and white and a minty green for knife pleated full dresses. There was also a poppy print in tangerine and raspberry for a fresh summer look.
