FIMI is, quite literally, going up in the world having moved the 5,500 square metre exhibition up a level in the giant Feria Valencia exhibition halls. For spring summer 2013 there are 212 exhibitors and 270 brands being represented from a total of 20 countries. Matching Pitti Bimbo in it´s years, both celebrating their 75th edition this season, there are some exciting childrenswear labels emerging and the exhibitors are seemingly more on-trend than ever. There is always a large selection of Communion and occasionwear on show at FIMI.
Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is a big brand in Spain and took over the biggest stand in the exhibition to recreate her own childhood world. As bright and colourful as ever, it also captures lots of the most popular trends and motifs for next summer including neon brights, sixties silhouettes, polkadot prints, heart motifs and A-line skirts.
Tucked away in a corner we made an exciting discovery. CWF are adding a new childrenswear brand to their burgeoning stable. For spring summer 2013 they will be adding girlswear label Billieblush to their current brand list which already includes Chloe, Little Marc Jacobs and Burberry. Billieblush has captured the neon trend, especially in pink and yellow. Highlights of the collection include a polkadot PVC raincoat and peach pleated dress. Definitely a label to watch.
This is the stand-out trend for next summer season. The adult fashion world is already embracing the trend for this summer, but get ready for a neon explosion come next spring. From shoes to shirts, everything has a pop of colour. We spotted neon denim at Replay & Sons, neon striped swimwear at Boboli and lots of neon pink at Billieblush.
This wasn´t a huge trend here at FIMI but worth mentioning for the few pieces we did see here when put in context with how much we spotted at Pitti. Elisa Menuts all yellow and white presentation on the catwalk included a pair of knee-length gingham shorts for boys. Black and white gingham shorts also appeared on Pan con Chocolat´s catwalk.
Yellow and blue
Including ice blue, which was a colour we mainly saw over party dresses and evening cover ups. There were lots of blue willow china type prints over everything from swimwear for boys and girls at Elisa Menuts to party dresses at Oca Loca. The popular combination of bright blue and yellow was most noticable at Boboli, with the odd splash of green for boys seen in lots of the swimwear collections, as seen last week at Monnalisa and Gucci in Florence, and this time on cheesecloth shirts at Oh Soleil.
Sixties and surrealism
Another sixties inspired summer takes on a hippy vibe. Plenty of the swimwear sent down the catwalk was inspired by this decade - tunic zip up lace tops at Anai, headscarves and floaty coverups at Jose Varon. Things also took a slight turn towards the fifties, with headscarves over up-do´s also proving popular. The surreal shape of the sunglasses gave a slightly futuristic edge, a trend we saw signs of at Pitti Bimbo.
