Immi by Karin Littlewood (Gullane, £10.99)

In this beautifully illustrated storybook, a little Eskimo girl, Immi, suddenly discovers colour in her icy white world. One day when fishing on the ice, she finds a wooden bird, then a red flower, an orange starfish and other bright wonders in the water. She decorates her igloo with these brilliant hitherto unseen new hues, bringing new joy to her surroundings. When the ice melts and it is time for her to move on, she drops her white polar bear pendant into the water. Far away on another day, a boy is walking across a beach in a colourful and warm land. He spots something unusual and special on the sand and picks it up – Immi’s small white bear.
