Douglas by GN Hargreaves (Egmont, £5.99)
With a strong book pedigree (his father is Mr Men creator, Roger), Giles Hargreaves clearly knows about creating memorable characters. Looking very debonair in jacket and tie, Douglas is not your average dog. He can do just about anything, from playing a plethora of musical instruments (flute, piano, tuba), to cooking, skating, gardening… But he can’t wag his tail. Why? Because he just doesn’t know how to have fun! With the help of a bird named Basil, Douglas sets off in pursuit of happiness… and a wag.
